Editorial review:

The current La Fonda, built in 1922, sits on the same site as previous inns that served the intersection of the Santa Fe Trail and the Plaza for almost 400 years. In 1925, the new building was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway and then leased to Fred Harvey who turned La Fonda into one of the famous Harvey Houses. This is a fun colorful hotel with beautiful tile work and murals. The 150 some odd sleeping rooms are comfortable, but if you are looking for luxury be sure to upgrade to a concierge room. The best views are from the rooftop bar.

The hotel is long famous for it's gracious design, old world charm and superb location right on the Plaza in historic Santa Fe. It is an " old lady" that has aged very well! There are newer and fancier places in and out of town but we were very impressed at the level of care and authenticity with which the hotel has been maintained. A lovely experience! We loved being able to show our 8 year old the feeling of the "real" Santa Fe! The service could not have been better.

I wouldn't have minded if the bathroom had been a little more "posh"; the pool area needs some green plants to offset the "closed in" feeling and all that adobe!

So close to the Plaza. Great southwest ambience. Belltower patio in the evening was great for a cocktail.

          Should update bathrooms in rooms

Great location, very comfortable beds and beautifully decorated in Southwest style. Great hotel for mature couples.

The hotel has a great historic ambiance and is in the heart of Santa Fe. Everyone was nice and accommodating. After upgrading from a standard room, we had a very nice room with comfortable beds and a nice living room area. It seemed like the perfect home base in Santa Fe. The restaurant was a wonderful place to start the day with breakfast. Other great restaurants and all the museums/churches were within an easy walking distance.

I would caution others that all rooms are not created equal. Having seen a standard room, I would splurge on something above that--a deluxe room or the Terrace.

Everything! Close to shopping, good restaurants, just the center of everything.

          Rooms a little small

We have stayed at the La Fonda many times and the experience is always good. The location is what makes it so special - plus their dining room is lovely with a nice menu and charming setting. It is a good central place to use as a "home base" while exploring Santa Fe. Hard to beat.

Nancy Helman. Need I say more? She is a gem!

I thought the rooms were a little tired, especially the bathroom, for the money.

The bed was very confortable and the fabrics of good quality. I tried the restaurant and I found both the food and the service to be above average (as are the prices). The location is really excellent, just in front of the Cathedral. Free Wi-Fi works fine.

Breakfast was not included and parking is USD 12.00 per day. Other 3 stars hotels close by offer free parking. I turned to the concierge for a car rental and she was not very useful. In general I found the staff friendly but not well informed/willing to help. There were no towels in the room at the time of my arrival and I had to change the key because it failed in opening the door after one day stay.

It was a great location. The restaurant exceeded our expectations.

It did not have that clean freshness and needs to be renovated. The carpets looked pretty worn and not that clean. The bathroom was not cleaned very well and really needs updating. If they want to attract younger people they need to keep the shops open later and have a better drink menu in the bar.

It was so easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go from the hotel.

Parking was convenient but fees should be covered with the purchase of the room.
